Dan Shapiro answered my Next Big Thing call by just messaging it to me here on tumblr. So here it is. Impressively, he answers every question without ever telling you what the memoir is about.
I don’t have a blog, so I’m using Mason’s.
Q: What is the working title of this book?
A: The King of Chicago
Q: Where did the idea come from for this book?
A: I lived it.
Q: What genre does your book fall under?
Q: What actors would you pick to act in a movie version?
A: Bruce Campbell needs to play the bad teacher. He’s good at playing a heel. Tim Kazurinsky would be good as the good teacher, but they’d probably cast Robin Williams, or some bullshit.
Q: What is a one sentence synopsis of the book?
A: Some interesting things happened to me as I was finishing up school.
Q: How long did it take you to write the first draft?
A: Not done yet.
Q: Who or what inspired you to write this book?
A: Jakob Knabb. He asked me to. Said he’d like me to write a book.
Q: What else about your book might pique your reader’s interest?
A: It’s about a tough, relevant subject dealt in a no-frills way that accurately shines light on it.
Q: Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?
A: Don’t know.
