I’m wearing a tie.
Will hopefully beat Dave Snyder.
But probably not.

What kind of horrible humor can you expect at Dan Shapiro’s Rigged Open Mic, which happens the second Sunday of every month at Cole’s?
The weirdest horrible humor.

This is the best reading in Chicago. My number 1 favorite at least. I’d go even if I wasn’t reading…
… but I am.
More importantly, all the other readers are better than me.
It happens twice a year now, so don’t miss it.
Last night’s P. Fanatics went really well. Above you can see a picture of the crowd laughing at Dan Shapiro.
It’s rare that I host a reading with such consistently good work. Some notes:
- Dan Shapiro and I started the show off with a lot of stupid bullshit, but the crowd stuck with us through it, and seemed to enjoy it. Once we finally got off the stage, Behnam Riahi was there to thankfully keep things rolling.
- Susie Swanton is one of only a handful who’s ever decided to write about “Piss Fanatics.” With that in mind, she was probably the most successful to do it yet! Cytomegalovirus!
- Russ Woods was dangerously cheesy, and totally made the most sense of the night. Mostly though, he was just really funny.
- Tadd Adcox played to the (nerdy, literary) crowd by reading about a librarian while also being exceedingly clever.
- Hillary Stone was the disturbed of the night, which is not an easy task when you’re around Dan. She may also have been the funniest of the night. I shouldn’t pick favorites.
- Dan finished us off tonight. Dan was Dan, which is to say, he was amazing. Nobody does stand-up like he does, which makes it hard to watch other stand-ups. They all seem stale in comparison.
